Things to Consider: Spas

Before you go:

  • Consider your stress level. Massages, manicures and pedicures don't have to be saved until the week of the wedding. Pampering yourself is a great way to relieve a little stress in the weeks and/or months leading up to the wedding.
  • If you are gathering a group of girls for a pampering party, first consider the extent of services you'll need: massages, manicures, pedicures, facials, wraps, etc. and for how many people. Many spas will offer group discounts for wedding parties, especially for those who avoid service on the day of the wedding, since Saturday is the busiest day of the week.
  • Do you or any of your pampered princesses have any special needs, i.e. an allergy to latex or a baby on the way? Health concerns are top priority when considering any spa or salon service.

Questions to ask:

  • How many stylists or artists are (or will be) on site for your pampering party? And how many manis/pedis can be done at the same time? For large parties, you may need to allow more than just the salon time allotted to get everyone in, out and on to the party.
  • For massages, what types do they offer? Explain your stress level and physical needs and ask which type is best for you.
  • For nail services, make sure you know which shades you want before you take your seat. Red tips sink ships (at least those that are paired with hot pink bridesmaid dresses!).
  • If you opt for a facial, ask about possible reactions or flare-ups post pampering.  Red, blotchy faces make for poor portraits.

Don't forget:

  • The day of your wedding will no doubt be a blur. No matter what your schedule entails, make sure you eat! Fainting brides (grooms and attendants too!) make for bad pictures.
  • Just like any other service staff you encounter on a daily basis, don't forget to tip your salon artists and stylists.

Ways to Save
  • The more the merrier when it comes to spa services. Make sure you ask the manager or group sales consultant for details about multiple services and/or group discounts.
  • Happy brides make for healthy brides. Some spas offer discounts to members of certain healthplans and/or insurance providers. Make sure you ask about deals when you make your initial appointment.
