Before you go:
- Consider season. The Bahamas are a great choice 9 months out of the year, but not your best
option in December. As well, you might want to avoid the Dominican Republic in September, when the
hurricanes are at full force.
- Consider your scenery. Do you want white sand or white snow; a resort or a jungle hutch; luxury
on satin sheets or an adventure vacation hiking the Himalayas?
- Consider your budget. Depending on your location, typical honeymoon costs include: airfare for
two; passport fees; accommodations; food and beverage; car, boat or other travel fees; and spending
money.
Questions to ask:
- When your travel agent or online booking engine quotes a price, does it include all the
necessary and some of the unnecessary (but essential!) things you'll need while you are gone?
- Does your final destination require a U.S. passport? Requests for passports may take four to
six months to deliver now that the government has increased requirements for all travel outside the
U.S. or its territories. Although, you can expedite the process for a price. For more information,

- Does your vacation destination require a doctor's visit for immunizations?
- Plan for the worst. What is your airline, hotel and/or cruise line's cancellation policy?
- Does your travel agent or online booking agent also offer travel insurance?
- If you choose an all-inclusive destination, what does that really include? Make sure you read
the fine print and don't be afraid to ask your travel representative.
Don't forget:
- Confirm all travel plans at least one week prior to your departure.
- Check-in early! If you are departing on an early-morning flight, check-in up to 24 hours ahead
online.
- Whether you choose a cab or your Uncle Carl, arrange for airport transportation prior to your
departure.
- If you are traveling abroad, consider exchanging some funds before you go. That way you don't
have to hit a bank the moment you hit the ground.
- Contact your local post office to hold your mail. You can now also do so online at:

- Some agents or online booking engines quote reduced rates if you book both your land and air
reservations at the same time.
- If you are willing to take the risk, many Caribbean hot spots offer discounts during the
high-hurricane season.
- Ask about honeymooner's upgrades. At check-in, make sure that you mention to all agents and
desk clerks that you are on your honeymoon. There is no guarantee, but most airlines and hotels
will upgrade newlyweds if the space is available.
