Before you go:
- In most cases, the bride's and bridesmaid dresses set the tone for the rest of the wedding
party. Make sure that the suits that you choose coordinate in both color and style. This does not
mean that every suit has to be the same. Consider what type of look you want to see on your wedding
party.
- For the gentlemen, shopping for attire is usually a little easier. Once the tux or suit has
been selected, they will only need to be measured for a perfect fit. If any groomsman does not live
near or in a town with the same retailer, they can be measured by any tailor or seamstress and call
in those measurements to the selected vendor.
- Think about your entire wedding party. Don't forget to include the fathers, grandfathers,
ushers, readers or other ceremony participants. They do not all have to wear the same attire, but
they can if you choose.
Questions to ask:
- If you are sticking to a strict color scheme, make sure that your chosen suits come in and/or
coordinate within that scheme. If your specific shop does not offer coordinating suits, do they
have a sister shop which might?
- Are there any time restrictions on making your reservations? What kind of deposit is due? When
are final payments due? Discuss timing for both pick-up and return.
- What are their policies if when at pick-up the suits don't fit? Do they carry in-house options
for such an emergency?
- Does your retailer offer insurance to protect the renter from damage or other charges should
something happen to the suit?
Don't Forget
- If there are any additional requirements other than the suit itself, i.e. purchase of a certain
tie, color of sock or style of cuff link, make sure that that information is communicated to the
group.
- If you choose not to rent coordinating tuxues or suits for the groom and groomsmen, set some
guidelines on attire. Whether that is a certain color of jacket or pant, or cut of shirt, make sure
that every one knows the rules.
- If the suits are rented, what are the return policies? Make arrangements for those who will not
be in town or available after the wedding.

- Many retailers offer discounts for the groom or entire wedding party if everyone rents their
suit from the same shop.
- If each of the groomsmen owns a similar black, gray or navy suit, consider only requiring
purchase of a single tie or other common piece to tie the party together. Or you can give this
piece to them as a gift, a thank you for participating in the big event.
